Sylvia Torner, is the founder and head of  Pro-Active Animal Consulting, and manages   the   daily   operations   of   the    company.                          

In this position, she writes, design and produce the courses and workshops of "positive reinforcement", addressed to improve the lives of animal and people working and living together in zoos and aquariums.

In addition to her skills as a consultant, she has an extensive and active carrier in training different animal species, specially marine mammals. Previously Sylvia has collaborated in some of the most prestigeous companies.

She has been working with animals since 1989, when she spent  some years with Keiko the killer whale in Mexico City. Later on she trained dolphins in Via Delphi, with Alex Gómez Rubio.  After that she met Mike and Shelley Wood when starting Dolphin Discovery, she joined the team for 10 years.

She had the opportunity to attend courses and workshops with Bob Bailey, Ken Ramírez and Steve Martin´s "Natural Encounters". And collaborated shoulder to shoulder with Chris Davies.

She was supervior  and advisor on Isla Mujeres and Puerto Aventuras locations. She achieved successfuly important husbandry behaviors with  bottle-nose dolphin calves and mothers.

 

When she became in 2005 a Consultant/Advisor for the company, after her experience running busy operating duties, she is aware that in ocassions, is difficult to update and refresh trainers during busy schedules.

Therefore, training new staff appropriately, and re-train or up-date trainers or keepers in different levels, with accurate information, observations feedbacks and follow-ups, became number 1 priority  for her. Knowledge is power, better results and healthier animals.

Improving the quality of animal´s lives and the trainers or keepers´skills, but mainly reducing stress and high risk scenarios for animals, keepers and guests, in a proactive, safe way.

Recently she was hired as a manager at "Atlantis The Palm Dubai" and shared her expertise to implement the interactive programs with dolphins. She was responsible for the care and training of Indo-Pacific dolphins (Tursiops Aduncus) as well as coaching  and guiding her multi-cultural staff.

She lead among other experts as Francisco Díaz de la Vega, the rehabilitation and adaptation of 11 blind and wild dolphins as well as their adaptation and husbandry program.

It is with Francisco that after his experience in México, Turquía and Dubai, they start together Pro-Active Animal Consulting, helping companies (zoos & aquariums) to enhance the quality and health of their animal´s lives.
Acquiring skills to lead multi-cultural staffs with great success. She and her partners can interact in english, spanish and italian.

 Sharing their expertise with other outstanding, commited professionals in the animal´s training and management field, with various skills and specialties on different animal species.
